Types of Computers

Based on the size, computing power and capabilities, the computers are divided in to several types. Let us have a look at these ranking from top to low. 1. Super Computer The fastest and extremely fast computer capable of execution hundreds of millions of instructions per second (MIPS) is called a Super computer. They are highly expensive (around 50-100 million dollars to a few billion dollars) and most powerful.  It can execute n* 10 power 10 to n* 10 power 50 operations per second ex. the NASA super computer Pleiades can execute 5.95 to 7.25 petaflops per second.  1petaflop = one thousand million million = 10 power 15 floating-point operations per second - FLOPS) The super computers are used in research purposes and in intense calculations like weather forecast, Earth quake studies, nuclear reactors & simulations, Astro physics, complex scientific operations etc. NASA uses super computers to launch satellites, rockets and for space exploration. Generations of Computers

Hey there, It has been really long time since I made a technical post which is my forte. So here I am with my simplified and easy to understand post. Generations of Computers: In technical context generation may be referred to as the varied drastic growth in technology day to day. Computers have changed in various ways (in terms of its size, power and abilities) since their inception. The evolution of the electronic computers over time is categorized in to five generations with differences in terms of size, computing power and the technology used. First Generation:  Early 1940's to late 1950's - Vacuum Tubes Image Source: By Unknown - U.S. Army Photo, Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=55124 The first generation computers were built using vacuum tubes (CPU) and magnetic drums (storage) and used machine language programming . Vacuum tubes are glass tubes without gas, with an electrode capable of controlling electron flo...

Ego

Ego - a very small three letter word with the power to destroy what ever comes its way. Be it a loving heart, or an intelligent brain, this ego shatters peace in to a billion pieces. Where does this ego reside? Where does it come from? Is there any living creature that has no traces of ego in it? I guess no! Ego steps in to our life right from the time we are born! What am I saying? Are kids egoistic too? Well, in my opinion, not really - but we can see some minor traces of ego even in the babies!  The moment a baby notices his/her mom give attention to someone else, it starts crying. The moment the mother puts the baby down from her arms, it starts weeping. Not to forget the moments when we have been seen teasing a little one calling his toys as ours or his mom as ours. I have also seen some little kids behave weird and egoistic when we try to caress them or fondle them. But they are not aware of it. Nor do we realise that its actually a shade of ego popping up in to the...

Emotions - Intelligence & Emotional Intelligence

Are you Intelligent or emotional? Are you emotionally Intelligent or do you exhibit Intelligent emotions? Let's try to understand and explore. I am writing this post neither because I am emotional right now nor to show off my intelligence but to share my thoughts on the indispensable characteristics of living beings - the emotions and the Intelligence. We all are aware of what emotions are, but at some point of time in life we all wonder as to why do we get emotional - Don't we?  Emotions are natural responses to certain situations, circumstances, people or  things. Every one has different triggers to emotions and different levels at which their emotions get triggered. Some one may have well emotionally balanced mind but I personally refuse to believe that there could be any human, animal or any other living species without emotions. And I really find it too impractical and unreal when I read posts and suggestions saying things like you are the master of yo...

Time Management!

Hey there, Hope this post find you in the pink of health. Well, without wasting much time let's get to the actual content. A professor was addressing a gathering of young and middle aged audience. He made some arrangements to hand over a glass jar, few rocks, little sand, some pebbles and water to all the members in the auditorium. When the distribution of the above said things was over, the professor then asked them to fit in all the contents i.e sand, rocks, pebbles and water in to the jar given to them. But the jar was not big enough to accommodate all of those. Someone filled it up with sand and rocks and it was already full. Each person was trying and trying harder in different ways to complete the task but no body was successful. The professor then went on to demonstrate this. At first he put in all the rocks in to the jar. It was 2/3rd full already. He then poured little pebbles in to the jar and shook the jar. The little pebbles settled in the empty spaces b...

30 Interesting Facts about Earth

How well do we know our planet? 1. The actual shape of Earth is not a sphere but an oblate spheroid or Geoid. This shape is similar to a sphere, but the poles are flattened and the equator bulges (due to rotation). The Earth is made up of layers. The Inner and Outer Core, the Mantle, and Crust. Credit: discovermagazine.com   2. It is the Molten Iron Core layer of the Earth that Creates a Magnetic Field on Earth. 3. The surface of the Earth is divided in to tectonic plates that float on the rocky mantle.  4. The inside of the Earth is very active with mountain formations, volcanoes and earth quakes occurring along the boundaries of tectonic plates. 5. Earth has less craters on the surface (compared to moon and few other planets) due to it's geological activities (like volcanoes & earth quakes) and movement of tectonic plates. 6. Earth revolves around the sun in its orbit at a speed of 67,000 mph (107,826 km/h)  7. The Earth i...

Practice before you preach...

Do you do as you say? There was a little boy named Krish. Krish was a very innocent, sweet and cute. He had a heart that was pure, unpolluted and uncontaminated. One day Krish saw his mother addressing her friends (neighboring women)  on the sacred Ramayan. She extolled the truthfulness of the Lord and king Ram and concluded that truth could never be hidden for long, that we should always speak truth no matter what the situation is and irrespective of the consequences, and that truth alone always wins. Krish heard all of the talk. The ladies had a good feast and then after all the ladies dispersed a beggar appeared at their door and this lady who was lecturing on truth now screamed at the beggar saying that she hasn't cooked anything yet and yelled at the beggar to get lost from there. Hearing this Krish was a bit confused and disturbed as there was lot of food in the home. He couldn't understand why his mother told the beggar that she hasn't cooked anything. ...

Look before you Leap...

Hey there, Lets talk about Information. Many a times we are not the first hand recipients of information. We receive information from someone or through the Internet or the media. Some of us are wise enough to ponder over the details received from any third or fourth party sources but most of us blindly believe in what comes around from Mr.XYZ and everyone around. A wise one would use his/her intellect and wisdom to ponder over that information and decide whether to trust and take it in or throw it out. That is what makes us different from animals. The power of thinking and intellect. To illustrate this, lets remind ourselves of this famous story of a fox. There was once a fox in a jungle. One day the fox accidentally slipped in to a deep well and was unable to get out of there. So it came up with an idea. As soon as it heard a sheep bleat, it started exclaiming very loud  "wow. This water is so tasty!".  Hearing this the sheep went close to the well and asked...
